Allah SWT told Promised Messiah (AS) of his Death beforehand

Anti-Ahmadis allege that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) died a sudden & unexpected death. However, Ahmad (AS) received several clear divine revelations foretelling his demise. This is just how Muhammad ﷺ was granted revelations foretelling his passing.

Revelations in 1905 indicating death is near

Ahmad (AS) started receiving revelations that his death was near. He did not die all of a sudden, nor was his death unexpected. The occurance of these revelations peaked in the last few days of the Promised Messiah As’s death. Based on these revelation it is clear that the Promised Messiah AS had reached the age that Allah had desired of him and Allah was calling him to himself. This means that the Anti-Ahmadi allegation is left baseless.

In 1905, the Promised Messiah (AS) testified that he received multiple revelations saying that only a small portion of his life spanned remained. These revelations were a message to prepare him and the Jama’at for the future. He writes the following in his book, The Will:

“Since God Almighty has informed me, through recurrent revelations, that the time of my demise is near, and since these revelations have been of such force as to shake me to the very core of my being— turning my heart cold to this life—I have deemed it appropriate to write a few words of admonition…”

[The Will p. 1]

He goes onto cite one profound Arabic he received:

“The appointed time of your death has come close and We shall leave no trace of anything the allusion to which might reflect adversely upon your honor…We have the Power to show you a part of the fulfilment of Our prophecies about the opponents or cause you to die. You will die while I am pleased with you.”

[The Will p. 2]

In the same year, the Promised Messiah (AS) had a dream and revelation that only 2-3 mouthfuls of the water of life were left in a vessel given to him (mouthfuls are euphemism for years):

“I saw in my dream that someone had given me some water in a new earthen vessel. Only two or three mouthfuls of water remained in it but the water was very clear and pure. This was accompanied by the revelation: Water of Life”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.786]
[Review of Religions, vol. 4, December 1905, p. 480]

Numerous revelations days before his death in 1908

On May 9 1908 Promised Messiah (AS) received the following revelation:

[It is time to march; again, it is time to march.”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.1033]
[al-Badr, vol. 7, no. 21, May 26, 1908, p. 7 and al-Hakam, vol. 12, no. 35, May 30, 1908, p. 1]]

On May 15 1908 Promised Messiah (AS) received the following revelation:

“Be not afraid, O believers.”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.1033]
[al-Badr, vol. 7, no. 21, May 26, 1908, p. 7 and al-Hakam, vol. 12, no. 21, May 26, 1908, p. 7]

On May 17 1908 Promised Messiah (AS) received the following revelation:

“Do not put your trust in uncertain life.”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.1034]
[al-Badr, vol. 7, no. 22, June 2, 1908, p. 3]

On May 20 1908 Promised Messiah (AS) received the following revelation very similar to May 9 revelation but more direct:

“It is time to march; again, it is time to march and death is near.”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.1034]
[al-Badr, vol. 7, no. 22, June 2, 1908, p. 3]

Confirmation by the Promised Messiah (AS)

On the night of his passing, Ahmad (AS) confirmed the revelations about his death when his dear wife, Amma Jan (RA), asked in concern:

“…I got worried and said ‘O Allah what is happening?,’

Promised Messiah (AS) replied, this is what I used to say (referring to his earlier revelations about his death)”

[Seeratul Mahdi, vol.1, pg. 10-11]

Revelations Fulfilled

Ahmad (AS) passed away peacefully on his bed, as foretold in divine revelations, at 10:30 AM on May 26, 1908, surrounded by family and engaged in the remembrance of Allah.

Several eyewitnesses, including his close family members, friends, and doctors, confirmed his blessed death which can be read here: https://whiteminaret.org/allegations-on-messiah/death-on-toilet/#Explanation

Similarity with Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Prophet ﷺ did the Farewell Sermon.

Ahmad (AS) wrote his last major book “The Will”.

Prophet ﷺ prophesied his death on the deathbed to his daughter, Hazrat Fatima (RA)

Ahmad (AS) prophesied his death to his beloved wife, Hazrat Syeda Nusrat Jahan Begum (RA) – commonly referred to as Amma Jan (RA).

Narrated `Aisha:

“Mother of the Believers: We, the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) were all sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ) and none of us had left when Fatima came walking, and by Allah, her gait was very similar to that of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) .’ When he saw her, he welcomed her, saying, “Welcome, O my daughter!” Then he made her sit on his right or his left, confided something to her, whereupon she wept bitterly. When he noticed her sorrow, he confided something else to her for the second time, and she started laughing. Only I from among the Prophet’s wives said to her, “(O Fatima), Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) selected you from among us for the secret talk and still you weep?” When Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) got up (and went away), I asked her, “What did he confide to you?” She said, “I wouldn’t disclose the secrets of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)” But when he died I asked her, “I beseech you earnestly by what right I have on you, to tell me (that secret talk which the Prophet had with you)” She said, “As you ask me now, yes, (I will tell you).” She informed me, saying, “When he talked to me secretly the first time, he said that Gabriel used to review the Qur’an with him once every year. He added, ‘But this year he reviewed it with me twice, and therefore I think that my time of death has approached. So, be afraid of Allah, and be patient, for I am the best predecessor for you (in the Hereafter).’ ” Fatima added, “So I wept as you (`Aisha) witnessed. And when the Prophet (ﷺ) saw me in this sorrowful state, he confided the second secret to me saying, ‘O Fatima! Will you not be pleased that you will be chief of all the believing women (or chief of the women of this nation i.e. my followers?”)“

[Sahih al-Bukhari 6285, 6286]

Further Similarities with the Holy Prophet ﷺ can be read here in our featured article: https://whiteminaret.org/allegations-on-messiah/similarities-death-of-muhammad-saw/

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Promised Messiah (AS) peacefully passed away on his deathbed, at 10:30 am, surrounded by his family, while deeply engrossed in the remembrance of Allah. One of his final expressions was a heartfelt invocation, “O my beloved Allah.”

It is important to highlight that the accusation made by Anti-Ahmadis regarding his demise is a baseless falsehood devoid of any credible source.

Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the manner in which the Promised Messiah (AS) departed from this world bears a striking resemblance to the last moments of our beloved Prophet (SAW). Therefore, this unfounded allegation not only amounts to a clear act of fabrication but also represents a blasphemous and disrespectful insinuation against the noble Prophet (SAW) himself. May Allah guide those who engage in this blasphemy.

Introduction

There is a famous Anti-Ahmadiyya book circulated on the internet. It is titled: “An Unequivocal Clarification – Exposing the Qadiyani Ahmadiyya Sect“1. The author was a renowned Sunni scholar and the Imam of the Masjid Haram in Mecca. The book is filled with blatant lies and absolute filth about Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS).

In this article, we will expose many of the lies from this book.

Author’s Introduction

I will post the introduction of the author as written in the book itself.

This should be enough to show that no matter the ‘high’ caliber of these so-called ‘scholars’, they are no different than the ignorant laymen on social media.

He is the scholar and Imām, Shaykh Abū ‘Abdillāh Muḥammad bin ‘Abdillāh as-Subayyil b.
He was born in 1345 AH (1924 CE), and he passed away in 1434 AH (2012 CE).

» HIS POSITIONS:
• Imām and Khaṭīb at Masjid al-Ḥarām in Makkah
• Member of the Permanent Committee of Scholars
• Member of the Islamic Fiqh Academy
• President of General Affairs in Masjid al-Ḥarām and Masjid an-Nabawī in Madīnah.

» HIS DA’WAH EFFORTS:
Shaykh Muḥammad as-Subayyil authored numerous works and had many great efforts in da’wah, visiting more than 50 countries to teach and spread Islām, such that many people accepted Islām by way of Allāh and then though his da’wah and gentleness.

» HIS SCHOLARS:
Shaykh Muḥammad as-Subayyil studied with a number of scholars, among them:
• Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azīz as-Subayyil (his brother), the judge of Bekeriyah
• Shaykh ‘Abdullāh as-Subayyil (his father)
• Shaykh Muḥammad bin Muqbil al-Muqbil, the judge of Bekeriyah
• Shaykh ‘Abdullāh bin Ḥumayd

» HIS STUDENTS:
Shaykh Muḥammad as-Subayyil had many students, among them:
• Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Luhaydān
• Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān
• Shaykh Muqbil bin Hādī al-Wādi’ī

Blatant Lies

In this section, we will only list the very blatant lies mentioned in the book

Death on toilet

The Indian newspaper also published a piece on the death of Ghulām Aḥmad. They stated that, when Ghulām Aḥmad al-Qādiyānī—the false prophet—was stricken with cholera, there was filth exiting from his mouth prior to his death. And he died while sitting on the toilet, defecating in the bathroom.

[Pg 11232321]

This is a blatant lie without any citation. No newspaper has this and there is no proof of this anywhere.

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) died exactly like the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), surrounded by his family, in remembrance of Allah and after prophesying his own death. Full article can be read here.

Death after hitting on the bed

The next lie he makes up is that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) dies because he hit his head on the bed post. So what is true? He died because he hit on the bed post or that he died on the toilet? This ignorant Mawlavi can’t even make up his mind.

When he stopped vomiting, he wanted to lie down, but he fell down on the bed and hit his head against the wooden bedpost and died.
Reference: Mirzā Bashīr ad-Dīn. Biography of the Mahdī, 1/11, narration #12.

[Pg 11232321]

He quotes a reference but no such reference exists in the book, Seeratul Mahdi that says Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani (AS) died after hitting his head on the bed post. Full article can be read here again which contains the narrations from the same book.

Deny Virgin Birth of Isa (AS)

» THEY DENY THAT JESUS WAS BORN WITHOUT A FATHER
They deny that Jesus (‘Īsā) was born from a mother without a father. They say that he has a father; thus, they accuse Allāh of lying in His statement:

Verily, the likeness of Jesus with Allāh is the likeness of Ādam. He created him from dust, then (He) said to him: “Be!” and he was.
[Sūrah Āli ‘Imrān 3:59]

[Pg 11232321]

This is again a blatant lie and no reference from any book of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) is quoted. Ahmad (AS) has numerous times mentioned that Isa (AS) was born without a father. Full article with references can be read here.

Deny Miracles of Prophets

» THEY REJECT THE MIRACLES OF THE PROPHETS
They reject the miracles of the prophets, even though these miracles are narrated through reports with numerous chains of narration; and they are stated in several places in the Qur’ān, such as in the stories of Ṣāliḥ, Moses (Mūsā), Jesus, and Muḥammad.

[Pg 14]

Another lie and again without any reference or citation.

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) never denied any miracle of any prophets. On the contrary, he showed numerous miracles throughout his life, like healing the sick, death prophecy of many individuals, miracles through acceptance of dua and many more. These can be read under the section of our website called, Sign of Messiah.

Ahmad (AS) even challenged his enemies that they can throw him into a live burning hell fire and God would save him like he saved Ibrahim (AS).

Abrogated Jihad

» THEY CLAIM THAT JIHĀD HAS BEEN ABROGATED
They claim that jihād has been abrogated, even though the Qur’ān, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the scholars [all agree] that it remains.

[Pg 14]

No citation or reference again!

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) never claimed that Jihad is abrogated. He even rejected the theory of abrogation (Naskh Mansukh) that Sunnis believe in. They believe that there commandments and verses in Quran that are abrogated (are useless) and can never be used for legal rulings or otherwise. Full article here.

Get Money from British and British Spies

» THEY HAVE ANIMOSITY & ENMITY TOWARDS THE MUSLIMS
Their enmity towards the Muslims is immense while they have allegiance towards the non-Muslims, especially Britain, from whom they receive large amounts of money to disseminate their false beliefs. For this reason, you will rarely find a country that England has colonized except that the Ahmadiyya have centers and preachers within it. They even established a center in Israel, where they are given complete support and assistance such that they publish a monthly magazine there called Al-Bushra. All of this—and other matters, as well, which will be mentioned during this analysis—proves that they have evil intentions against the Muslims, and their destructive principles clearly oppose the religion of Islām and contradict the foundations and principles of this religion.

[Pg 14]

Again no citation or reference. What is wrong with this ‘scholar’? Why can’t he ever provide any proof of his claim?

This is absolutely absurd. Ahmadi Muslims are probably the only group of Muslims who never receives monetary favors from any country or any other group. Unlike the Sunni Muslims who get government funding from the British government and other governments around the world. This has been the case since the British were in India. Just one example is the famous Salafi Sunni Green Lane Masjid in UK receiving multi million dollar donation from the government.2Birminghammail.co.uk]3

Lastly, Arab Sunnis converted to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community settled in Palestine, long before the Sunnis lost it to the Zionists. Just like many Sunni Muslims, they have been living in the Palestine since decades. Claiming that Ahmadis get any special favors from Israel is completely absurd, that too without citing any source.

No Miracles from Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS)?

His followers answered his call and believed in him without any evidence or clear proof from him; rather, they followed
him simply because he appealed to them. They complied with his wishes without scrutinizing his statements or examining his claim. If they’d had any knowledge about the rules of the religion, the verses from the Qur’ān, and the miracles of the prophets and messengers, they would have never accepted his fallacious claim; they would have never accepted his fabrication. Surely, it is a must that prophets bring miracles and evidence to substantiate their prophethood, miracles that will necessitate the people to believe in them [because they can do] things man is not able to do.

If only these Qādiyānis would have requested their alleged prophet to perform any such miracle so they would have proof of his truthfulness.

[Pg 23]

I am tired of repeating but again, he cites no proof or a reference.

I have already mentioned the numerous miracles of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS). These can be read under the section of our website called, Sign of Messiah.

The rest is childish tantrums saying people believe in him without evidence and so on. Unlike the ‘Giant scholar’ of Sunnis, we will stay academic.

Finally, he gave some references to his lies.

The first reference does not say Qadian is greater than Mecca and Medina. Rather, it is placed third, after Mecca and Medina. Moreover, the statement is from Kashf (vision) of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS). Read more here.

The second reference is not from any book of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS). There is no book named The Reality of Dreams by Ahmad (AS).

Introduction

Tawaffa (توفى) is an Arabic verb that means to take something. When Allah does the Tawaffi of a human, it ONLY means taking of the soul. This can be at the time of death, or sleep if night is mentioned. There is no other meaning for it. It never means taking of the body and soul or flying towards Allah.

This is exactly what the Arabic lexicons explain. Where are they getting this rule from? It comes from the following verse:

Allah takes away the souls of human beings at the time of their death; and of those also that are not yet dead, during their sleep. And then He retains those against which He has decreed death, and sends back the others till an appointed term. In that surely are Signs for a people who reflect.

There is no other meaning for it. It never means taking body and soul together, or that one physically flew towards God.

Introduction

Some ignorant non-Ahmadi Muslim scholars claim there is a consensus that Isa (AS) is alive. They argue that since Ahmadi Muslims reject this supposed consensus, Ahmadis are Kafir (implying their blood may be shed and they are destined for eternal hellfire).

In this article, we will demonstrate not only that no such consensus (Ijma’) exists, but that the majority of early Muslims refute the modern day Muslim translation of the Holy Quran.

Explanation

Tafsir Tabari, written by Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari RH (d. 310AH) is one of the earliest and most notable Tafasir of the Holy Quran amongst the ‘Sunni’ Muslims. In the tafsir of the Quran 3:55, he writes that there is disagreement amongst the Muslims about what happened to Isa (AS). He then goes on to list 4 views of the early Muslims regarding Isa (AS). 3/4 of these views translate Tawaffa (توفى) as ‘taking of the soul’ unlike how the ignorant non-Ahmadi Muslims would do.

Conclusion

There are multiple lessons from this. Firstly, there is no Ijma’ (consensus) that Isa (AS) is alive, as even the early Muslims (Salaf) differed on this topic.

Secondly, there is no Kufr (disbelief) in believing that Isa (AS) has passed away.

Thirdly, 3/4 of the interpretations translate ‘Tawaffa’ as ‘taking of the soul’ and NOT the body.

Fourthly, 2/4 of the interpretations translate ‘Tawaffa’ as ‘death’.

Finally, Ahmadi Muslims have not invented a new interpretation regarding the death/ascension of Isa (AS).

Introduction

In the previous articles, we detailed the last moments and the blessed death of the Promised Messiah (AS)1. We also refuted the lies that he died of Cholera2 and proved that when anti-Ahmadis mock the blessed death of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS), they are actually mocking the pious, giant scholars of Islam3.

In the final installment of this series we will be looking at whether prophets are able to have illnesses, the final moments of the Holy Prophet (SAW) before his passing, and make a comparison between the death of the Promised Messiah (AS) and Holy Prophet (SAW). From this, it will become evidently clear that any allegation made by the anti-Ahmadis about the death of the Promised Messiah (AS) is in fact a direct attack on the Holy Prophet (SAW).

i) Extreme Suffering

One of the objections that the opponents make against the claim of the Promised Messiah (AS) is that prophets do not suffer from illnesses and that this was in fact a punishment for Ahmad (AS). However, this is just another example of them maligning the Holy Prophet (SAW).

Narrated Aisha:

I never saw anybody suffering so much from sickness as Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ).

[Sahih al-Bukhari 5646]

‘A’isha said:

“No more will I envy anyone for an easy death now that I have seen how the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) suffered in his passing.”

[Ash-Shama’il Al-Muhammadiyah 389]

This shows that anti-Ahmadis do not carry out their own research. They make allegations based on self-made criteria, and by criticizing the Promised Messiah (AS) for suffering due to a disease or illness, they commit blasphemy against the Holy Prophet (SAW) and put their faith at risk.

ii) Last words: Remembrance of Allah

Ahmad (AS) showed deep devotion and remembrance of Allah in his final moments:

During this period, Promised Messiah (AS) kept saying this in an extremely loving tone,

“O my beloved, O my beloved”.

And when he heard the azan for the fair prayer, he asked whether it was time to pray. And even with extreme weakness, he made intention and prayed salat.

[Al Badr, 2 June 1908, pg. 4]

In the same way, the last statement of the Holy Prophet (SAW) is also recorded:

Narrated `Aisha:
When the Prophet (ﷺ) was healthy, he used to say, “No soul of a prophet is captured till he is shown his place in Paradise and then he is given the option.” When death approached him while his head was on my thigh, he became unconscious and then recovered his consciousness. He then looked at the ceiling of the house and said, “O Allah! (with) the highest companions.” I said (to myself), “Hence, he is not going to choose us.” Then I realized that what he had said was the application of the narration which he used to mention to us when he was healthy. The last word he spoke was, “O Allah! (with) the highest companion.”

[Sahih al-Bukhari 4463]

iii) Arrangements near bed

The Promised Messiah (AS) is criticized for needing to use the toilet on the night of his passing. Arrangements were made for a portable toilet in his room, as he was struggling to move around.

What anti-Ahmadis fail to mention is that the Promised Messiah (AS) was able to pray fajr namaz, meaning that he was in a state of purity. Following this, there is no mention of him needing to relieve himself at any point for many hours until his death around 10:30 am. Using the logic of the anti-Ahmadis, every person died a death of humiliation as they would have had to use the bathroom at some point before passing away.

I woke up and he layed down on the same bed as me and I kept massaging his foot until he told me to stop but I insisted. In this time, he got another motion but this time he was so weak and could not go to the bathroom so I made arrangements for it near his bed. He relieved himself and laid down while I kept massaging his foot.

[Seeratul Mahdi, vol.1, pg. 10-11]

Nevertheless, what they don’t realize is that they are in fact insulting the Holy Prophet (SAW), as the second similarity is that arrangements were also made for the Holy Prophet (SAW) in his room, where a wooden vessel was placed under his bed for him to urinate in.

A’isha said:

“I was resting the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) on my chest (or: on my lap), when he called for a basin in which to urinate. Then he urinated and died soon after.”

[Ash-Shama’il Al-Muhammadiyah 387]

“The Prophet (ﷺ) had a vessel made from a date tree in which he would urinate and place it under the bed.“

[Sunan an-Nasa’i 32]
[Sunan Abi Dawud 24]

This shows that the last physical act committed by the prophet (saw) shortly before he passed away was to use the portable toilet that was provided for him. This is something which the anti-Ahmadis believe is the sign of a false prophet. God forbid. It is truly only Ahmadis who honor the Holy Prophet (SAW) and give him the rank that he deserves.

iv) Difficulty in speaking

Promised Messiah (AS) was falling in and out of consciousness, and at times also struggling to speak.

When it was dawn he woke up and performed his morning prayers. His throat was completely hoarse. He tried to speak but could utter no sound. He called for pen and ink, but could not write. The pen dropped from his hand.

[Hadhrat Ahmad, pg. 58-59]

However, no objections can be made in regard to this. We already established that no one had to suffer more due to their illness than the Holy Prophet (SAW). From various narrations, we can see that the Prophet (SAW) also struggled to speak and went in and out of consciousness.

“When the Messenger of God’s illness from which he died grew severe until he became unconscious, all of his family gathered.”
Another narration from Usamah b. Zayd (ra) says: “When the Messenger of God’s illness became severe, I and the people came down to Medina and went to the Messenger of God. As he was tongue-tied, he began to lift his hand towards heaven and put it down upon me, so I understood that he was praying for me.”

[Tarikh Tabari, vol. 9, pg. 178] (English)

v) Unconscious

The Promised Messiah (AS) went in and out of consciousness.

Due to his weakness, Ahmad (as) was also having trouble speaking. The only words that could be heard from him were:

I (Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad) was standing by him at the time of Fajr prayer. After inquiring whether it was time for prayer, he performed Tayammum and tried to offer his prayer in bed. But he fell unconscious. After regaining consciousness, he again inquired about Fajr prayer and offered his prayer while lying down in his bed. He was becoming weaker by the moment and all you could hear were the words,

‘O Allah, my beloved Allah!’

At last, at about 10:30am, with his family by his side, he breathed his last, and his soul departed from this world towards Allah.”

[Silsilae Ahmadiyyat, vol. 1, pg. 176-177]

Similarly, the Holy Prophet (SAW) went in and out of consciousness as well, as shown by this narration from Hazrat Ayesha (RA) below:

When death approached him while his head was on my thigh, he became unconscious and then recovered his consciousness.

[Sahih al-Bukhari 4463]

vi) Death in the presence of family

The Promised Messiah (AS) died in the presence of his pious wife, Hazrat Amma Jan (RA), sons, and other close family members:

At last, at about 10:30am, with his family by his side, he breathed his last, and his soul departed from this world towards Allah.”

[Silsilae Ahmadiyyat, vol. 1, pg. 176-177]

Similarly, Muhammad ﷺ died in the lap of Ayesha (RA), with other family members by his side.

In the presence of `Aisha some people mentioned that the Prophet (ﷺ) had appointed `Ali by will as his successor. `Aisha said, “When did he appoint him by will? Verily when he died he was resting against my chest (or said: in my lap) and he asked for a wash-basin and then collapsed while in that state, and I could not even perceive that he had died, so when did he appoint him by will?”

[Sahih al-Bukhari 2741]

Conclusion

In conclusion, we have proven that prophets do have illnesses and diseases, and no one had to suffer more than the Holy Prophet (SAW) at the time of his death. In fact, prophets are more prone to illness and suffering because in this lies a greater reward for them.

Also, it is evidently clear that the Promised Messiah (AS) and the Holy Prophet (SAW) had to face a similar ordeal at the time of their passing. It is reported that both had their families by their bedside, and they both struggled to speak and went in and out of consciousness, similar arrangements of a portable toilet were made for both servants of Allah in their rooms for them to be able to relieve themselves, and most importantly they had the utterance of Allah on their lips till the end until they met their noble death. SubhanAllah

Those who mock the Promised Messiah (AS) by saying he died on the toilet are clearly ignorant of the fact that the Holy Prophet (SAW) urinated in a bowl just before passing away. On the other hand, there is no mention of the Promised Messiah (AS) needing the toilet for many hours before he died. After observing these facts, only a liar and shameless person could have any objections on the death of the Promised Messiah (AS), and if they still persist then they are only insulting and blaspheming against the Holy Prophet (SAW). All one can say after this is that may Allah save us from such misguidance. Ameen.

Introduction

Allah made a personal assurance to the Promised Messiah (AS) that he would die close to the age of 80, in the range of 74 years to 86 years. This promise was made to the Promised Messiah (AS) because He and his family did not know for certain his birth year or his actual age. In simple terms, Allah’s promise trumped any confusion or calculations on the age of the Promised Messiah (AS) made by him, his followers, his family, or his opponents (revelation over human intellect and limited knowledge).

From the Promised Messiah’s (AS) books, one can get his date of birth anywhere from at least 1832 to 1839. However, the issue is that whenever the Promised Messiah mentions anything regarding his age he always makes it clear that he is only giving approximations, and as such none of these calculations can be deemed decisive or wholly accurate.

Here are the words of Allah’s assurance made to the Promised Messiah AS:

Your age will be eighty years—a few years less or some years more; and you will live long enough to witness your distant progeny.

[Tadhkirah, p. 8, (1865)]
[Arba‘in, no. 3, first edition, pp. 29–30]
[Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 17, pp. 418–419]
[Appendix Tuhfah-e-Golarhviyyah, p. 19, Ruhani Khaza’in, vol. 17, p. 66]

“God had informed me in clear terms that I would live to the age of eighty, or that five to six years more or five to six years less…The actual words of the revelation that pertain to this promise, however, fix the age between 74 and 86.”

[Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya Part V, p. 347]

The proof for the enemies is the following excerpt from 1907 where he claims his age is 68 years. Since he died the following year, his age must have been 69/70. Thus, the prophecy is false.

And, according to this calculation, my birth has taken place in the 6th millennium, for my age is almost sixty-eight years now.

[Haqiqatul Wahi, p. 253]

Refutation

Estimates are uncertain guesses

Whenever the Promised Messiah (AS) referred to his age, he made sure to emphasize that he was only giving approximations/estimates. He used words like “تقریبا“(approximately), “قریب“(around), “یا“(or) etc. He never indicated that he was absolutely certain of his age which is the reason why he gives wide-ranging and contradictory estimates of his age. Estimates are not meant to draw clear decisive conclusions or act as an objective, bona fide focal point for any argument.

Furthermore, the Promised Messiah (AS) spells this out in clear terms for those who cannot see his nuanced wording:

“True estimation of the age is known, of course, to God…”

[Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya, part 5, pg. 489]

Other estimates

Before we give definitive evidence for the Ahmadi and Lahori position that the Promised Messiah (AS) was born in 1835 and reached 75 years of age (Islamic calendar). Let us give you a few proofs for the correct age (+/-1) of the Promised Messiah (AS) using the same technique Anti-Ahmadis use to misrepresent his age.

75 in Haqiqatul Wahi

In the same book, Haqiqatul Wahi, he estimates his age to be 70 in 1903. Thus, he died at the age of 75 in 1908.

I published an announcement in English on 23 August 1903, opposing Mr. Dowie. It says; ‘I am about seventy years in age and Mr. Dowie, as he states, is a young man of fifty but I do not care for my age because this mubahalah will not be decided by our ages but God who is the Most Supreme Authority will decide it.

74 in Kitab Al Barriyah

The Promised Messiah (AS) says that he spent 40 years with his father, his father passed away in 1876. This would mean the Promised Messiah AS was born in the year 1836, which takes his age to 74 in the Islamic calendar.

I spent almost 40 years of my life under the protection of my father.

74 in Majmu`a Ishtiharat

In 1894, he estimates his age to be 60. This is 74 at the time of his death in 1908.

If Atham is sixty-four years of age, this humble self is around sixty…

76 in Haqiqatul Wahi

In Haqiqatul Wahi also, he claims to have the first revelation in the year 1290H. And in Taryaqul Qulub [Ruhani Khazain, vol. 15, pg. 208], he mentions that his age was 40 that year. Thus, it means he died in 1908 (1326H) at the age of 76.

It is amazing—and I consider this to be a Sign of God—that I was blessed with converse and discourse with God Almighty exactly in the year 1290 Hijrah

Calculating the exact date of birth

After the death of the Promised Messiah AS, there was a lot of importance placed by the Jama’at and demand by the people to accurately collect and reconstruct/preserve every aspect of his life. The Sahabah of the Promised Messiah AS knew that he had definitely reached the age of 74 as this was Allah’s promise, however they were unable to determine or agree upon his exact date of birth. After exhaustive research and readings of the books of the Promised Messiah AS different snippets from his books and sayings were gathered regarding the day the Promised Messiah AS was born, Such as:

This humble self was born on Friday in the 14th day of the Lunar month.

[Ruhani Khazain, vol. 17, pg. 281]

The month of my birth was Phagan. It was the 14th day of the Lunar month and the day was Friday.

[Zikr-e-Habib, pg 238, 239]

14th on a Friday in the month of Phagan only happened in 2 years. The first is 17 February 1832 and the other is 13 February 1835. It cannot be 1832 as it won’t be consistent with the ages presented above, thus, the correct date is 13 February 1835. This makes his age around 75 years or so in 1908.

Promised Messiah AS knew of his Death beforehand

1905 revelations indicating close to end of lifespan

Promised Messiah (AS) started receiving revelations that his death was near.

In 1905, the Promised Messiah AS testified that he received multiple revelations saying that only a small portion of his life spanned remained.

In the same year, the Promised Messiah AS had a dream and revelation that only 2-3 mouthfuls of the water of life were left in a vessel given to him (mouthfuls are euphemism for years):

“I saw in my dream that someone had given me some water in a new earthen vessel. Only two or three mouthfuls of water remained in it but the water was very clear and pure. This was accompanied by the revelation: Water of Life”

Numerous revelations days before death showing death is near

On May 9 1908 Promised Messiah AS received the following revelation:

[It is time to march; again, it is time to march.”

On May 15 1908 Promised Messiah AS received the following revelation:

“Be not afraid, O believers.”

On May 17 1908 Promised Messiah AS received the following revelation:

“Do not put your trust in uncertain life.”

On May 20 1908 Promised Messiah AS received the following revelation very similar to May 9 revelation but more direct:

“It is time to march; again, it is time to march and death is near.”

Confirmation of revelations on deathbed

Again there was no surprise from the Promised Messiah (AS) and neither his family nor companions. If his death was going to fail the prophecy regarding his age, we would see some worry. Rather, we see the opposite as on the night before his death, Promised Messiah (AS) consoles his wife that there is no need to worry as he had already hinted towards this moment via his revelations. In her account, the Wife of the Promised Messiah AS, Amma Jaan (RA) states:

But he got even weaker and he vomited. So while lying down, he fell on his back on the bed due to weakness and hit his head on the bed frame. I got worried and said ‘O Allah what is happening?’.

Promised Messiah (A.S) replied, “This is what I used to say“

[Seeratul Mahdi, pg. 11]

Non-Ahmadis accept the age prophecy is fulfilled

Sanaullah Amritsari

The famous “Sunni Ahle-Hadith” scholar and one of the leaders of the Ahle Hadith movement in the subcontinent prove that the Promised Messiah (AS) died at the age of 79.

“A person who is older than 70 years of age (as is Mirza Sahib himself)…”

[Tafseer-e-Sanai, 3:145]

In the February 1908 edition of his magazine Murqa’ Qadiani, he acknowledges that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) had reached the age of 75, thereby fulfilling the prophecy:

“In his booklet, ‘Ijaz Ahmadi,’ Mirza records about Abdullah Atham, the Christian: ‘He was the same age as me; that is, about 64 years old.'” This statement clearly indicates that Mirza’s age at the time of Abdullah Atham’s death was 64 years old. Let us now investigate the matter to find out when Atham died. Thank God, the date of Atham’s death is also mentioned in Mirza’s writings. In his book, Anjam Atham, page 1, Mirza writes the following: “Abdullah Atham died in the city of Firuzpur on 27th July, 1896. From this statement, it is clear that Mirza’s age in 1896 was approximately 64 years. Now let us see how many years passed from 1896 to 1908? According to our calculations – if none of Mirza’s followers make a mistake – it is 11 years. If we add 11 to 64, the total becomes 75 years. It is proven that Mirza’s age at the present time is 75 years.”
[Murqa’ Qadiani, February 1908, p. 12]

He also accepts that the Promised Messiah (AS) fulfilled the prophecy about his age:

“Mirza Sahib has said that his demise would be near 80 years of age and perhaps he has fulfilled all those conditions.

[Ahl-e-hadith, 3rd May 1907, pg. 6]

Age discrepancies for Prophets are the rule

We do not know the exact age of most Prophets AS nor did most Prophets AS know their own age. Even regarding the age of the Khatam an Nabiyyin, the Holy Prophet SAW is murky just based on the reports of Sahih Al Bukhari and Sahih Al Muslim alone (ranges from 60-65 years), the most authentic books of Hadith highly regarded by Ahmadi Muslims and Sunnis. For example, Sahih al-Bukhari 5900 says he was 60 years of age when he passed away, while Sahih al-Bukhari 3902 says he was 63 years of age, and Sahih Muslim 2353a says he was 65 years of age

Conclusion

In short, Promised Messiah (AS) died at the age of 75/76, as per the revelation of the God Almighty. He even died within the time frame that the Promised Messiah (AS) interpreted from this revelation i.e between the ages of 74 and 86!

The actual words of the Revelation that pertain to this promise, however, fix the age between 74 and 86.

Introduction

In this article, we will refute another allegation of the Anti-Ahmadis who claim the Promised Messiah (A.S) died of cholera. They claim that since he died of cholera, he is a false prophet. This is not only baseless but also contradictory to the primary sources that describe the death of the Promised Messiah (A.S).

Refutation

1) Promised Messiah A.S did not have any symptoms of cholera

Given the statement from the medical doctor at that time, it is clear that the Promised Messiah did not have cholera. His symptoms negate this lie.

Cholera is caused by a bacterial infection that can cause watery diarrhea via increased sodium ions in the intestine, which in turn increases the intake of water. This can cause continuous diarrhea which can be up to 1 liter per hour. Looking at the stools, one can predict cholera given the unique characteristic of pale, milky appearance that resembles water in which rice has been rinsed.

Most people exposed to the cholera bacterium (Vibrio cholerae) don’t become ill and don’t know they’ve been infected. But because they shed cholera bacteria in their stool for seven to 14 days, they can still infect others through contaminated water.

Most cases of cholera that cause symptoms cause mild or moderate diarrhea that’s often hard to tell apart from diarrhea caused by other problems. Others develop more-serious signs and symptoms of cholera, usually within a few days of infection.

Symptoms of cholera infection can include:

Diarrhea. Cholera-related diarrhea comes on suddenly and can quickly cause dangerous fluid loss — as much as a quart (about 1 liter) an hour. Diarrhea due to cholera often has a pale, milky appearance that resembles water in which rice has been rinsed.

Nausea and vomiting. Vomiting occurs especially in the early stages of cholera and can last for hours.

Dehydration. Dehydration can develop within hours after cholera symptoms start and range from mild to severe. A loss of 10% or more of body weight indicates severe dehydration.Signs and symptoms of cholera dehydration include irritability, fatigue, sunken eyes, a dry mouth, extreme thirst, dry and shriveled skin that’s slow to bounce back when pinched into a fold, little or no urinating, low blood pressure, and an irregular heartbeat.

The symptoms of cholera include using the washroom continuously and vomiting continuously. However, the Promised Messiah (as) only had stomach problems and vomited. This shows that it was diarrhea and dehydration and not cholera. He also did not use the washroom for many hours before passing away. This is proven by eyewitness accounts as seen below:

“Around 2-3 am, Promised Messiah (A.S) got loose motion and due to which his pulse could not be felt and was called with Maulvi Hakeem Noorudin (R.A), Khawaja Kamaludin and Dr Mirza Yaqub Baig. When Mirza Yaqub arrived, Promised Messiah (A.S) called him and told him of the situation and asked him to recommend medicine. He also said in reality the medicine is in the heavens. He said you should try to heal and pray for me.

His treatment started and was going successfully while we were standing there. But the pulse was not felt so much so that around 10 am in the morning is when Promised Messiah (A.S) soul met with his truest love i.e God. (“Verily we belong to allah, and verily to him do we return.”)

During this period, promised messiah as kept saying this in an extremely loving tone:

“O my Beloved, O my Beloved, O my Beloved Allah, O my Beloved Allah”

And when he heard the azan for the fair prayer, he asked whether it was time to pray. And even with extreme weakness, he made intention and prayed salat. During this moment, mother of the faithful, Amma Jan (R.A) (wife of the Promised Messiah) showed an exemplary character. She was sitting with her burga on and she would sometimes fall in prostration while repeating these words, “O Living God, O my beloved God. O Knower of all, O Resurrectors of the dead, help us. O my only God, forgive my sins, I am a sinner. O my Allah, give my life to him [Promised Messiah]”

2) None of the doctors with him thought he had cholera

He was accompanied by multiple doctors during his last days such as Hazrat Maulvi Noorudin RA, Mirza Yaqub Baig, and Dr Syed Muhammad Hussain Shah. None of them came to the conclusion that he had cholera or treated him for it. Neither did they quarantine him or burnt his belongings in fear of the spread of the disease. The Promised Messiah AS stayed in the same bed with his wife, Hazrat Amma Jaan until he passed away around 10 am in the morning.

3) Medical certificate confirmed he died of Diarrhea

The Promised Messiah AS died in Lahore. He was buried in Qadian. For a body to be transported on train/rail the body must be examined by a government medical doctor and then given a certificate confirming that it had no infectious disease. This was done due to the rampant waves of epidemics across the globe at this time. In the British Indian Railway rulebook, it says:

A Corpse will not be conveyed by Train, unless it is in a properly secured air-tight Coffin, and is accompanied by a Doctor’s certificate, that death has not been caused by any infectious disease.

4) No one else in his family/friends got cholera

Another reason that proves he did not have Cholera is that all of his family members, friends, and his companions, did not get Cholera. Even though they were living with him, eating the same food and drinking the same water, while in the same environment. As it is commonly known, Cholera spreads through food and water, it would be near impossible that no one else in his company contracted Cholera.

5) No cholera wave in Punjab during May 1908

Another consideration is the seasonal variation of cholera. As seen in this study of cholera, it clearly states that in the Punjab region, the disease has a tendency to reach epidemic portions only during the monsoon months. The Promised Messiah died in May, which is the dry season in India. Not only do the symptoms not match, but the time of the season was not even in line with cholera at that time.

This is confirmed by the following source:

Nevertheless, in certain non-endemic areas, e.g., in the Punjab, the disease has a tendency to reach epidemic proportions only during the monsoon months.

Refutations of further allegations

We have proven with ample evidence that the Promised Messiah AS did not have cholera. Now we will refute the common objections that the Anti-Ahmadis bring up regarding it.

Allegation 1: Promised Messiah AS claimed he had cholera

They claim that the Promised Messiah AS himself said he had cholera as per the quote in Hayat-e-Nasir.

The night Hazrat Sahib became sick, that night I had already gone to sleep in my quarters. When he was greatly afflicted, I was awoken. When I reached Hazrat Sahib, and saw his condition, he saw me and remarked, “Mir Sahib, I have (have I) been afflicted with epidemic cholera.(?)

[Hayat-e-Nasir, pg. 13]

Firstly, even if we accept the words at face value, it is possible that they were stated as a question, and not as a statement of fact. In Urdu, sometimes a simple change in the tonation of the sentence makes it into a question. The same is found in other languages.

For example, “You went to the store.” can be changed with a simple change in intonation from a statement to a question: “You went to the store?”. It is thus possible that the Promised Messiah (AS) was asking a question and not making a statement, in which case the translation would be “Do I have cholera?”.

Secondly, if it was not a question, it is also possible that the Promised Messiah (AS) was wrong about what he thought at that moment while he was extremely sick. It is not a far-fetched idea that he made such a mistake. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) also did something similar during his last illness. He thought that somehow the poison that he did not even ingest in Khaibar (3-4 years earlier) may be the cause of his illness, even though this was not medically possible and against the Quran itself. The narration says:

The Prophet (ﷺ) in his ailment in which he died, used to say, “O `Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at Khaibar, and at this time, I feel as if my aorta is being cut from that poison.”

[Sahih al-Bukhari 4428]

While the Quran says that whoever lies about God Almighty, Allah will cut off their aorta:

And if he had forged and attributed any sayings to Us,

We would surely, have seized him by the right hand,

And then surely, We would have severed his life-artery,

[Quran 69:43-45]

Allegation 2: Promised Messiah AS used Chlorodyne

They claim that Promised Messiah AS used Chlorodyne in Lahore, a few days before his death. Chlorodyne is a medicine used for Cholera. thus, he died of Cholera. The narration they use is the following:

This was written to me by Peer Muhammad Manzoor sahab thru Molvi Abdur Rehman Mubashar that hazrat sahab while in Lahore, perhaps a day before his death once he came out from inside and said I have had excessive loose motion today so I took three drops of Chlorodyne. This humble self says that hazrat sb had the complaint of loose motion most of his life time. But during last days he suffered from it one night before his death. It is however, possible that he might have slightly suffered from loose motion one or two days before his death and then it has suppressed.

[Seeratul Mahdi, vol 3,pg 721]

It is true that Chlorodyne is a medicine for cholera but along with it, it is also used to cure Diarrhea, Dysentery, Fever, Spams e.t.c. This is proven by the following advertisement of the same medicine from the time of Promised Messiah (AS). Thus, to use this medicine to prove he had cholera while ignoring the other diseases it is used for is a stretch. Especially since we know that the Promised Messiah (AS) had the disease of diarrhea all his life.

A similar Ad is seen in Paisa Akhbar Lahore from 1898 where Cholorodyne is used to treat all kinds of illnesses as described above.

Allegation 3: Vakil Newspaper said Promised Messiah had Cholera

LATE MIRZA GHULAM AHMAD

The day of 26 May 1908 will be remembered in latest religious history of India for long time when at about 10 am Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiyani died of cholera disease or as per saying of few due to some other disease.

Late Mirza was staying at Lahore for the treatment of his wife and change of climate but the powerful order of Allah and time of departure which rich and poor common men and Nabi of great caliber have to face, has come for a person who by his amazing claims had created a tremor amongst religious ranks.

The newspaper quote says that Cholera could be one of the possibilities of his death and does not state that he definitively did die of Cholera. It is clear the newspaper does not have any clear sources rather it is speculating based on what others have said including the mischief-mongering opponents of the Promised Messiah (AS). Thus, it is deceptive and dishonest to even attempt to use this as evidence by Anti-Ahmadis.

Conclusion

This article has categorically proven that the Promised Messiah (AS) did not die of Cholera. His death certificate, along with the lack of symptoms of Cholera is the biggest proof of it. May Allah guide those who continuously lie on the Prophet of Allah. Ameen.
