What is Buruz? Is Buruz Islamic, Is it Hindu, Is it Kufr? What is Ahmadi View on Buruz? Imply thesame rank?
Introduction
In a recent dawahwise stream, all the Salafis struggled with understanding the conception of what Buruz and Zill is and made various allegations on writings from Ahmadis.
What is Buruz?
Buruz is a projection and a ظل Zill is a shadow, so a Zilli Prophet, is a prophet who obtains his prophethood from the lamp of a Prophet.
This is a famous concept among the Awliyah and even the Ahlul Hadith.
Is Buruz a Non Islamic Concept?
Some Ignorant Anti-Ahmadis claim that Buruz is a Hindu or non-Muslim Concept. This just shows how intellectually fallen they are.
It is also not correct to say that the concept of Buruz is un-Islamic. Many Muslim scholars have mentioned Buruz in their books. Among them is Hazrat Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlavi (1703-1762), who was a famous scholar of religion, Muhaddith and author in the subcontinent during the Mughal era. One of his great achievements is that he made the first Persian translation of the Holy Quran. Apart from this, he authored many other books as well. These books are on the subjects of Quranic exegesis, Hadith, Fiqh, History and Sufism. Due to these scholarly books, he is counted among the greatest scholars and authors in Islamic history, like Imam Ghazali, Ibn Hazm and Ibn Taymiyyah. He is also considered a reviver of his century.
Shah Walliullah RH on Buruz
Shah Waliullah states:
“Buruz is of two Types one Haqeeqi and one Majazi”
Tafeemat-e-Illhaiyyah Second Juz Tahfeem Number 228, Page 197
Then regarding Haqeeqi Buruz he wrote:
“Haqeeqi Buruz has many sub-categories. Sometimes it happens that the true essence of a person becomes manifest in his progeny or descendants, as it will happen in the case of our Prophet (peace be upon him) and Mahdi. That is, Mahdi will be the true manifestation of the Prophet (peace be upon him).”
Tafeemat-e-Illhaiyyah Second Juz Tahfeem Number 228, Page 197
Then in your book Infaas al-Aarifeen, while mentioning your father, you write:
He (my father) said that I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) in his real form. He turned his attention towards me. With his noble attention, I crossed the spiritual stations of the saints, and all those stations were clearly revealed to me, until I reached a station where the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that no saint can go beyond this. I submitted that this faqir believes that whatever impossible you turn your attention towards, you make it possible. It is not difficult that despite my capability, the face of that purpose appears to me. So O Prophet (peace be upon him), take my soul under the shade of your soul and cross the station of Truthfulness. Wilayah is the ultimate station. When the assembly of letters understood the state of Hazrat Walid Majid’s soul being taken under the shade of the Prophet’s blessed soul, he started saying that it felt as if my existence had merged and become one with the existence of the Prophet (peace be upon him). There was no separate external existence, except that my knowledge was giving me a sense of my own perception.
(Infaas al-Aarifeen by Hazrat Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlvi, translated by Peer Muhammad Farooq Qadri, Pages 114-115, Publisher: Fareed Book Stall Urdu Bazaar Lahore)
In the second part of the book “Infaas al-Aarifeen”, while mentioning the spiritual states of Shaikh Abul Raza Muhammad, it is written:
He said: “I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a dream, as if he blessed me with such closeness and connection with his blessed self, as if we became united in existence, and I found myself to be the essence of the Prophet (peace be upon him). At that time, someone asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) a question. He (the Prophet) gestured towards me, and I answered it clearly. After that, he (the Prophet) separated from me.”
(Infaas al-Aarifeen by Hazrat Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlavi, translated by Peer Syed Muhammad Farooq Qadri M.A., p. 203, published by Fareed Book Stall Urdu Bazaar Lahore)
He also stated in congruence to the Ahmadi interpretation regarding the Qur’anic Verse of 62:2-3
And Allah is the One Who has sent an Apostle in the Others too, who is from among them
(Sura 62: 3)
He states:
“The greatest of the Prophets in the matter (of excellence) is the one that that has a second advent too. The intention of Allah Most High in this is that it (the second advent) become a means for the bringing out of the people from darkness into Light. His (such a Prophet’s) people become the best Umma raised up from mankind, so the purpose of his (first) advent is fulfilled in the second advent too.”
Hujjat Allah al-Baligha; v. 1 p. 156 Arabic Scan, Urdu Scan p.159
He also stated:
The reality [is that] the Promised Messiah is to have the light and image of the Holy Prophet in him. Many people think that the Promised Messiah will be an ordinary person from the unmah. This is not true. He will be the true embodiment of the name of Holy Prophet and his true copy. How can he be compared with an ordinary Muslim.
al-Khair ul Kathir p.72
IS BURUZ REINCARNATION?
No, Buruz is not reincarnation. Promised Messiah AS denies reincarnation multiple times in his books. He also explains that his claim of Buruz-e-Muhammadi is not reincarnation.
The Promised Messiah AS stated:
“The concept of reincarnation is a blasphemy and turns a person’s moral faculties to dust.”
[Malfuzat, Vol. 3, p. 22]
He also states:
He AS says: “It is not that the very same previous Messiah is to come by way of reincarnation.”
[Malfuzat vol 1. 536-537]
He also states:
I have explained in many of my books that my claim of being Jesus the Messiah and Muhammadi Mahdi is not based on the
The British Government and Jihad p.29
idea that I am actually Jesus as or the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa. Nevertheless, those who have not carefully studied my
books might surmise that I am referring to reincarnation, as if I claim that the souls of both these holy men have reappeared in me. This is not so.
KHALIFATUL MASEEH I RA: BURUZ IS NOT REINCARNATION
Maulānā Nūrudīn RA states:
“In reality, Mirza [Sahib] is not really Muhammad or Ahmad but he is Ghulam Ahmad”
Nur al Deen bi-Jawab Tark-e-Islam p.318
SAME MAQAM? Khutbah Refutes Anti-Ahmadis
He ؓ delivered an entire Khutbah scolding a subset of Ahmadis who had done ghuluw (extremism/exaggeration) to the status of Promised Messiah AS
So just as I opposed the movement that had started to degrade the status of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) and to diminish his dignity, it is also my duty to oppose all such agitations and ways that attempt to portray the Promised Messiah’s status (peace be upon him) as equal or similar to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Therefore, when a person from our Jama’at started writing that reciting the Kalima of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) was permissible and facing Qadian during prayer was also allowed, I was the first among those who opposed him. He would always taunt me that the rebuttal from Lahore can only be like this – however much they try to degrade the status of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him), we should further elevate it and proclaim it. And he wanted that his literature be distributed among the people. But I never gave him any importance because my effort regarding the claims of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) was based on truth, not partisanship.
So when another person started exaggerating the status of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him), I opposed him as well.
Khutbat-e-Mahmood Vol. 23, p.547 circa 1942
KUFR TO SAY GHULAM AHMAD ع IS ON SAME RANK AS MUHAMMAD ﷺ
Hadhrat Al-Muslih Al-Mau’ūd states:
“Firstly, it is attributed to me that I consider the Promised Messiah AS equal to the Holy Prophet ﷺ. There is no doubt that in terms of being a shadow (zill), the Promised Messiah AS attained all the perfections of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, but I consider it KUFR to declare him equal in rank to the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Look, in a picture, the same things appear – like hands, nose, ears, head, eyes etc. – but still a picture is just a picture, and reality is reality. So I believe that the Promised Messiah AS followed so closely in the footsteps of the Noble Prophet ﷺ that he became his very image, but can a teacher and student ever be the same?”

Buruz in Qur’an and Ahadith
Anti-Ahmadis play games and say show the word “Buruz” in the Qur’an. A simple reply can be given. Show the word Tawhid in the Qur’an. Throughout the entire Qur’an you will not find the word “Tawhid” but you find the concept of Tawhid. Similarly, we find the concept of Buruz in the Qur’an
Verse 1:
And whoso obeys Allah and this Messenger of His shall be among those on whom Allah has bestowed His blessings, namely, the Prophets, the Truthful, the Martyrs, and the Righteous. And excellent companions are these.
Quran 4:70
Verse 2:
He it is Who has raised among the Unlettered people a Messenger from among themselves who recites unto them His Signs, and purifies them, and teaches them the Book and wisdom, although they had been, before, in manifest misguidance;
And among others from among them who have not yet joined them. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
Quran 62:2-3
Ahadith:
While we were sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ) Surat Al-Jumu’a was revealed to him, and when the Verse, “And He (Allah) has sent him (Muhammad) also to other (Muslims)…..’ (62.3) was recited by the Prophet, I said, “Who are they, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” The Prophet (ﷺ) did not reply till I repeated my question thrice. At that time, Salman Al-Farisi was with us. So Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) put his hand on Salman, saying, “If Faith were at (the place of) Ath-Thuraiya (pleiades, the highest star), even then (some men or man from these people (i.e. Salman’s folk) would attain it.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 4897
If the din were at the Pleiades, even then a person from Persia would have taken hold of it, or one amongst the Persian descent would have surely found it.
Sahih Muslim 2546a
“We were with the Messenger of Allah when Surat Al-Jumuah was revealed, so he recited it until he reached: And other among them who have not yet joined them, A man said to him: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Who are these people who have not yet joined us?’ But he did not say anything to him.” He said: “Salman [Al-Farsi] was among us.” He said: “So the Messenger of Allah placed his hand upon Salman and said: ‘By the One in whose Hand is my soul! If faith were on Pleiades then men among these people would reach it.”’
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3310
“Some people among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Who are these people whom Allah mentioned, that if we turn away they would replace us, then they would not be like us?'” He said: “And Salman was beside the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) patted Salman’s thigh and said: ‘This one and his companions, and by the One in Whose Hand is my soul! If faith were suspended from Pleiades, then it would be reached by men from Persia.'”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3261
“We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when Surat Al-Jumu’ah was revealed, so he recited it until he reached: ‘And others among them who have not yet joined them (62:3).’ A man said to him: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Who are these people who have not yet joined us?’ But he did not say anything to him.” He said: “Salman Al-Farisi was among us.” He said: “So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) placed his hand upon Salman and said: ‘By the One Whose Hand is my soul! If faith were on Pleiades then men among these people would reach it.'”
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3933
We were sitting in the company of Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) that Sura al-Jumu’a was revealed to him and when he recited (these words):” Others from amongst them who have not yet joined them,” a person amongst them (those who were sitting there) said: Allah’s Messenger! But Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) made no reply, until he questioned him once, twice or thrice. And there was amongst us Salman the Persian. The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) placed his hand on Salman and then said: Even if faith were near the Pleiades, a man from amongst these would surely find it.
Sahih Muslim 2546b
FOUNDER OF AHLE HADITH CONFIRMS CONCEPT OF BURUZ
Nawab Siddiq Hasan Khan writes:
“Sheikh al-Arif Muhiyuddin Ibn Arabi, the author of Futuhat Makkiya, has praised Ibn Hazm and on page 674 of chapter two hundred and thirty has stated: ‘This union reaches its pinnacle when one thing becomes the very essence of the other thing that is manifest, and it is not known that it is the same thing.” (One thing manifests in the other in such a way that the first thing is absolutely unrecognizable). As I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) embracing Ibn Hazm in such a manner that one body was completely absorbed in the other, the gaze perceives only the one, and that is the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). It is the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself manifesting this unity and oneness, that is two becoming one and nothing extra exists in the essence. This is what is meant by unity with God.and nothing extra exists in the essence. This is what is meant by unity with God.

Conclusion
It is clear that @DawahWise and @MrAdnanRashid misrepresented the Ahmadi Position and even their own scholars
