Prophecy of his own death | Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS)

Allah SWT told Promised Messiah (AS) of his Death beforehand

Anti-Ahmadis allege that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) died a sudden & unexpected death. However, Ahmad (AS) received several clear divine revelations foretelling his demise. This is just how Muhammad ﷺ was granted revelations foretelling his passing.

Revelations in 1905 indicating death is near

Ahmad (AS) started receiving revelations that his death was near. He did not die all of a sudden, nor was his death unexpected. The occurance of these revelations peaked in the last few days of the Promised Messiah As’s death. Based on these revelation it is clear that the Promised Messiah AS had reached the age that Allah had desired of him and Allah was calling him to himself. This means that the Anti-Ahmadi allegation is left baseless.

In 1905, the Promised Messiah (AS) testified that he received multiple revelations saying that only a small portion of his life spanned remained. These revelations were a message to prepare him and the Jama’at for the future. He writes the following in his book, The Will:

“Since God Almighty has informed me, through recurrent revelations, that the time of my demise is near, and since these revelations have been of such force as to shake me to the very core of my being— turning my heart cold to this life—I have deemed it appropriate to write a few words of admonition…”

[The Will p. 1]

He goes onto cite one profound Arabic he received:

“The appointed time of your death has come close and We shall leave no trace of anything the allusion to which might reflect adversely upon your honor…We have the Power to show you a part of the fulfilment of Our prophecies about the opponents or cause you to die. You will die while I am pleased with you.”

[The Will p. 2]

In the same year, the Promised Messiah (AS) had a dream and revelation that only 2-3 mouthfuls of the water of life were left in a vessel given to him (mouthfuls are euphemism for years):

“I saw in my dream that someone had given me some water in a new earthen vessel. Only two or three mouthfuls of water remained in it but the water was very clear and pure. This was accompanied by the revelation: Water of Life”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.786]
[Review of Religions, vol. 4, December 1905, p. 480]

Numerous revelations days before his death in 1908

On May 9 1908 Promised Messiah (AS) received the following revelation:

[It is time to march; again, it is time to march.”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.1033]
[al-Badr, vol. 7, no. 21, May 26, 1908, p. 7 and al-Hakam, vol. 12, no. 35, May 30, 1908, p. 1]]

On May 15 1908 Promised Messiah (AS) received the following revelation:

“Be not afraid, O believers.”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.1033]
[al-Badr, vol. 7, no. 21, May 26, 1908, p. 7 and al-Hakam, vol. 12, no. 21, May 26, 1908, p. 7]

On May 17 1908 Promised Messiah (AS) received the following revelation:

“Do not put your trust in uncertain life.”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.1034]
[al-Badr, vol. 7, no. 22, June 2, 1908, p. 3]

On May 20 1908 Promised Messiah (AS) received the following revelation very similar to May 9 revelation but more direct:

“It is time to march; again, it is time to march and death is near.”

[Tadhkirah (2019) p.1034]
[al-Badr, vol. 7, no. 22, June 2, 1908, p. 3]

Confirmation by the Promised Messiah (AS)

On the night of his passing, Ahmad (AS) confirmed the revelations about his death when his dear wife, Amma Jan (RA), asked in concern:

“…I got worried and said ‘O Allah what is happening?,’

Promised Messiah (AS) replied, this is what I used to say (referring to his earlier revelations about his death)”

[Seeratul Mahdi, vol.1, pg. 10-11]

Revelations Fulfilled

Ahmad (AS) passed away peacefully on his bed, as foretold in divine revelations, at 10:30 AM on May 26, 1908, surrounded by family and engaged in the remembrance of Allah.

Similarity with Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

  • Prophet ﷺ did the Farewell Sermon.
  • Ahmad (AS) wrote his last major book “The Will”.
  • Prophet ﷺ prophesied his death on the deathbed to his daughter, Hazrat Fatima (RA)
  • Ahmad (AS) prophesied his death to his beloved wife, Hazrat Syeda Nusrat Jahan Begum (RA) – commonly referred to as Amma Jan (RA).

Narrated `Aisha:

Mother of the Believers: We, the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) were all sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ) and none of us had left when Fatima came walking, and by Allah, her gait was very similar to that of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) .’ When he saw her, he welcomed her, saying, “Welcome, O my daughter!” Then he made her sit on his right or his left, confided something to her, whereupon she wept bitterly. When he noticed her sorrow, he confided something else to her for the second time, and she started laughing. Only I from among the Prophet’s wives said to her, “(O Fatima), Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) selected you from among us for the secret talk and still you weep?” When Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) got up (and went away), I asked her, “What did he confide to you?” She said, “I wouldn’t disclose the secrets of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)” But when he died I asked her, “I beseech you earnestly by what right I have on you, to tell me (that secret talk which the Prophet had with you)” She said, “As you ask me now, yes, (I will tell you).” She informed me, saying, “When he talked to me secretly the first time, he said that Gabriel used to review the Qur’an with him once every year. He added, ‘But this year he reviewed it with me twice, and therefore I think that my time of death has approached. So, be afraid of Allah, and be patient, for I am the best predecessor for you (in the Hereafter).’ ” Fatima added, “So I wept as you (`Aisha) witnessed. And when the Prophet (ﷺ) saw me in this sorrowful state, he confided the second secret to me saying, ‘O Fatima! Will you not be pleased that you will be chief of all the believing women (or chief of the women of this nation i.e. my followers?”)

[Sahih al-Bukhari 6285, 6286]

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Promised Messiah (AS) peacefully passed away on his deathbed, at 10:30 am, surrounded by his family, while deeply engrossed in the remembrance of Allah. One of his final expressions was a heartfelt invocation, “O my beloved Allah.”

It is important to highlight that the accusation made by Anti-Ahmadis regarding his demise is a baseless falsehood devoid of any credible source.

Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the manner in which the Promised Messiah (AS) departed from this world bears a striking resemblance to the last moments of our beloved Prophet (SAW). Therefore, this unfounded allegation not only amounts to a clear act of fabrication but also represents a blasphemous and disrespectful insinuation against the noble Prophet (SAW) himself. May Allah guide those who engage in this blasphemy.
