Prophecy of Muhammadi Begum: The Fulfilled Sign of Mirza Ahmad Baig

Introduction

The prophecy of Muhammadi Begum is one of the most powerful signs proving the truthfulness of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS). When arrogant relatives stomped on the Holy Quran and challenged God to show a sign in their family, Hazrat Ahmad (AS) warned that Mirza Ahmad Baig would die within three years of marrying his daughter, Muhammadi Begum, to someone else. Ahmad Baig openly defied the warning and married Muhammadi Begum away on April 7, 1892—and in just 5 months and 23 days, God struck him dead right on time! Even his fiercest opponents admitted the death of Ahmad Baig fulfilled the prophecy of Muhammadi Begum, the surviving husband testified to the miracle, and the entire family repented and entered Islam Ahmadiyyat.

Why Did God Target This Family?

This was never a private family argument over a marriage proposal.

The people involved in this incident were first cousins and close in-laws of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) living in Qadian and Hoshiarpur: 1. Mirza Nizam-ud-Din and Mirza Imam-ud-Din: First cousins of Hazrat Ahmad (AS). 2. Mirza Ahmad Baig: Their brother-in-law, who lived in Hoshiarpur. 3. Muhammadi Begum: The eldest daughter of Mirza Ahmad Baig.

These relatives did not just leave religion quietly. They turned into hardcore atheists who completely abandoned Islam, hurled insults at Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and attacked religion.

Look at what they were actually doing: 1. Denying the existence of God: They claimed that God does not exist and that all religions are just tricks played by smart men. 2. Stomping on the Holy Quran: They literally placed physical copies of the Holy Quran under their feet and stomped on them in front of others. 3. Worshipping an idol: Mirza Imam-ud-Din abandoned Islam entirely and became the leader of the Lal Begi community. He published pamphlets claiming a sweeper deity named Balmik was his savior and called the God of Muslims an idol [Deed-e-Haq, p. 5; Gul-e-Shaguft, p. 12]. 4. Blocking Muslims from praying: Mirza Nizam-ud-Din and Imam-ud-Din even built a brick wall across the public street to block Muslims from going to the Mubarak Mosque to pray behind Hazrat Ahmad (AS). The British court later forced them to knock it down [Siraj-e-Munir, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 12, pp. 69–70].

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) wrote about their terrible state:

إِنَّ اللّٰهَ رَأَىٰ أَبْنَاءَ عَمِّي، وَغَيْرَهُمْ مِنْ شُعُوْبِ أَبِيْ وَأُمِّيْ الْمَغْمُوْرِيْنَ فِي الْمُهْلِكَاتِ… وَالْمُنْكِرِيْنَ لِوُجُوْدِ اللّٰهِ وَمِنَ الْمُفْسِدِيْنَ

“God Almighty saw my paternal cousins and other close relatives that they are indulged in soul-crushing activities… denying the existence of Allah, and creating mischief.”

[A’ina-e-Kamalat-e-Islam, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 5, pp. 566–567]

He also mentions an eyewitness who ran to his house in tears:

“One night, a man came to me weeping. I asked him in fear: ‘Have you heard news of someone’s death?’ He replied: ‘No, something far worse! I was sitting with those relatives who have turned apostate from God’s religion. One of them hurled such vile abuse at the Holy Prophet ﷺ as I have never heard from any disbeliever. Furthermore, I saw them place the Holy Quran beneath their feet and stomp on it. They were uttering words that make the tongue tremble, saying that God does not exist and is merely a myth concocted by fabricators.’ Upon hearing this, my heart shattered, tears flowed from my eyes, and I locked my door and fell in prostration before God, begging for His intervention.”

[A’ina-e-Kamalat-e-Islam, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 5, pp. 568–570]

The Relatives Demanded a Sign First

Did Hazrat Ahmad (AS) pick this family out of nowhere?

Not at all. The relatives themselves demanded a heavenly sign inside their own household.

In August 1885, Mirza Ahmad Baig, Mirza Nizam-ud-Din, and Mirza Imam-ud-Din wrote an aggressive public letter. They published it in the newspaper Chashma-e-Nur. They even joined hands with Pandit Lekh Ram, the infamous Hindu Arya Samajist who spent his life attacking Islam. Mirza Imam-ud-Din signed this challenge on August 13, 1885, and Pandit Lekh Ram published it directly in his anti-Islam book Takzib Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya (Kulliyat Arya Musafir, p. 415).

Primary source scan: The public tract signed by Mirza Imam-ud-Din on August 13, 1885, published in Pandit Lekh Ram’s anti-Islam book Takzib Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya (Kulliyat Arya Musafir, p. 415), proving the relatives joined hands with Hindu opponents to demand a heavenly sign against Hazrat Ahmad (AS).

Their demand was very simple: – They mocked all the logical arguments and proofs of Islam published in Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya. – They demanded that God show a direct sign of life and death inside their own immediate family. – They publicly declared that unless God showed a sign in their household, they would never believe in Islam.

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) turned to Allah in prayer:

“O my Lord! Help Your servant and disgrace Your enemies.”

[A’ina-e-Kamalat-e-Islam, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 5, p. 568]

God answered his prayer in August 1885 with a clear promise:

“I have observed their disobedience and transgression. I shall soon strike them with various calamities and destroy them from under the heavens… Yet I shall not destroy them all at once, but step by step, so that they may turn back and be among those who repent.“

[A’ina-e-Kamalat-e-Islam, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 5, pp. 569–570]

Notice this crucial point right from day one. God clearly said the punishment would not wipe them out in a single second. It would strike step by step, specifically to give them a chance to turn back and repent!

The 31-Month Countdown Sign (August 5, 1885)

In that exact same month of August 1885, God answered their challenge with an astonishingly specific countdown prophecy:

“I received a revelation regarding Imam-ud-Din and Nizam-ud-Din that within a period of thirty-one months, a severe calamity would strike them; that someone from their family would die, leaving them in intense shock and trauma. This will happen from today’s date, which is August 5, 1885.”

[Tadhkirah, p. 103]

Did anything happen within 31 months?

Exactly in the thirty-first month (March 1888), Mirza Nizam-ud-Din’s young daughter suddenly died, leaving behind a newborn baby!

In 1886, Hazrat Ahmad (AS) had also seen a vision warning their mother:

“Repent, repent! Or calamity shall befall your daughter or your granddaughter.”

[Tadhkirah, revelation of 1886, pp. 107–108]

Notice this: at this point, Muhammadi Begum was not even in the picture yet. God was already showing this household pinpoint signs of life and death down to the exact month, warning them to repent before the proposal was ever made.

How the Prophecy of Muhammadi Begum Started

In 1888, Mirza Ahmad Baig found himself in trouble.

His sister’s husband had gone missing years earlier and was presumed dead. Ahmad Baig wanted to transfer that ancestral property into his own name, but British land law required the written consent of other family heirs. That meant he desperately needed Hazrat Ahmad (AS) to sign legal consent papers.

Ahmad Baig came to Hazrat Ahmad (AS) and begged him for his signature.

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) told him that he does not take such steps without praying to Allah for guidance. When he prayed, God revealed the entire matter:

“The All-Powerful and Glorious God revealed to me: ‘Propose to Ahmad Baig that he give his eldest daughter, Muhammadi Begum, in marriage to you. Tell him that if he accepts, it will bring immense blessings and mercy upon him. But if he refuses, and marries her to someone else, the girl’s father will die within three years of that marriage, and the man who marries her will die within two and a half years of the wedding, and calamities will overtake their household, unless they repent and turn to God.'”

[Announcement of July 10, 1888; A’ina-e-Kamalat-e-Islam, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 5, p. 572]

Think about how wise this divine plan was.

If Ahmad Baig agreed, family ties would be healed, their attacks on Islam would end, and the cousins would return to faith peacefully.

But if Ahmad Baig arrogantly refused and continued his war against Islam, God’s warning would fall upon him.

Why Was the Prophecy Kept Private at First?

Christian missionaries later objected in their newspaper Nur Afshan: “If this revelation was truly from God, why did Mirza Sahib keep it private at first and ask the family not to publish it?”

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) gave a very simple and honorable answer:

It was a private family matter. He did not want to cause heartbreak, public shame, or pain to Ahmad Baig and his daughter. He wanted to give them a peaceful chance to reconcile.

So who made it public?

It was the girl’s own maternal uncle, Mirza Nizam-ud-Din! In a fit of fury, Nizam-ud-Din took the private letter, ran through the bazaars, shouted the details to everyone in town, and handed it over to the hostile Christian missionary newspaper Nur Afshan!

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) wrote:

“The response is that this was a private affair and it had been communicated to those for whom it was meant to be a Sign. It was also certain that the publication would offend the father of that girl. Therefore, I desisted because of the possibility of such heartache and pain… Mirza Nizam-ud-Din, the maternal uncle of the girl, in a fit of rage and fury, himself published it and published it so widely that perhaps within one or two weeks, ten thousand men and women were informed… He had my letter published in the newspapers and paraded it throughout the bazaars… Now that this letter of mine has been published even in Nur Afshan, and the Christians have begun to utter falsehoods regarding it, it is my duty to reveal the facts with my own pen.”

[A’ina-e-Kamalat-e-Islam, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 5, pp. 287–288 / Mirror of Excellences of Islam, p. 328]

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) then pointed out a crushing fact that completely destroys the cheap attack of “marriage desire”:

Years earlier, Hazrat Ahmad (AS) had already told Pandit Lekh Ram and the entire clan that a man from their family named Ahmad Baig was destined to die!

At the time that initial death prophecy was made, Muhammadi Begum was only 8 or 9 years old!

As Hazrat Ahmad (AS) explained: How could a warning about her father’s death be driven by “lust” or personal desire when the prophecy of his death was already made when his daughter was just a little child?

Calamities Strike Before Muhammadi Begum’s Wedding

Anti-Ahmadis completely skip the four years between 1888 and 1892.

Why? Because if they told you what happened, their whole objection would fall apart.

Even before Ahmad Baig married Muhammadi Begum to someone else, God began fulfilling the promise made in 1885 that calamities would strike them “step by step”: 1. His young son died: Ahmad Baig’s beloved young son died suddenly. 2. His first sister died: Ahmad Baig’s sister (the wife of Ghulam Hussain) died unexpectedly. 3. His second sister died: Another sister passed away shortly after. 4. Heavy financial losses: The family faced severe financial setbacks.

Ahmad Baig saw his own son and sisters dying one after another. Yet, his arrogance blinded him. Instead of taking heed and repenting, he decided to openly defy God’s warning.

On April 7, 1892, Mirza Ahmad Baig married his daughter Muhammadi Begum to a relative named Mirza Sultan Muhammad of Patti.

The clock had now officially started.

Did Ahmad Baig Die on Time After Muhammadi Begum’s Wedding?

The divine prophecy gave Ahmad Baig up to three years from the date of Muhammadi Begum’s wedding to die.

Did he survive three years?

Did he survive two years?

Did he even survive one year?

Not at all. Mirza Ahmad Baig did not even make it to six months!

In late September 1892, Ahmad Baig suddenly fell ill with a severe typhoid fever. His condition collapsed in a matter of hours. He was rushed to the municipal hospital in Hoshiarpur, but nothing could save him.

Within just 48 hours of falling sick, Ahmad Baig died!

He passed away on September 30, 1892.

That was just 5 months and 23 days after Muhammadi Begum’s wedding!

The man who mocked Islam, demanded a heavenly sign, stomped on the Quran, and laughed at God’s warnings was dead and buried in under six months.

This was a massive, terrifying fulfillment of prophecy witnessed by thousands of people across India.

Even Opponents Conceded the Muhammadi Begum Prophecy Was Fulfilled

Did the opponents back in 1892 say the prophecy of Muhammadi Begum had failed?

Not even close! They were completely stunned.

Maulvi Muhammad Hussain Batalwi was the number one enemy of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS). He spent his whole life issuing fatwas against him. Yet, when Ahmad Baig dropped dead, even Batalwi had to openly admit in his own magazine that the prophecy was fulfilled right on time!

Because he could not deny the death, Batalwi came up with an absurd excuse:

مرزا صاحب کی پیشگوئی کے مطابق احمد بیگ کا میعاد کے اندر مر جانا علم نجوم یا رمل یا جفر کے ذریعے سے ہو سکتا ہے

“The death of Ahmad Baig within the appointed time in accordance with Mirza Sahib’s prophecy could have been calculated through astrology, geomancy, or jafar [divination].”

[Isha’at-us-Sunnah, Vol. 15, pp. 22–23]

Just look at how desperate the opponents were!

An orthodox Muslim scholar was forced to claim that a fulfilled prophecy was “astrology and fortune-telling.”

If the prophecy had failed, Batalwi would have celebrated in the streets. Instead, he had to invent excuses to explain why Ahmad Baig died on time!

Why Didn’t Muhammadi Begum’s Husband Die?

Now comes the favorite question of modern anti-Ahmadis:

“If the prophecy of Muhammadi Begum was true, why didn’t her husband, Mirza Sultan Muhammad, die within two and a half years?”

The answer is very simple: because God spared him when the family repented.

In Islam, all warnings of punishment have a condition: if people fear God and repent, God holds back the punishment.

When Ahmad Baig dropped dead in under 48 hours, the entire family went into absolute shock.

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) describes what happened immediately after Ahmad Baig’s death:

“There were two parts to this prophecy. One related to Ahmad Baig and the other to his son-in-law. And some revelations published earlier contained the condition that in case of repentance (taubah) and fear, the death would be delayed. However, Ahmad Baig ridiculed the prophecy until his time arrived, and he passed away from this world in a day or two from typhoid fever. Only then did their eyes open and they became terrified for the son-in-law as well. Their women became gripped with fear of God, weeping, offering Salat, fasting, and trembling in terror. Thus, at such a time of intense fear, it was impossible that God’s established law would not show mercy.”

[Siraj-e-Munir, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 12, p. 32]

What about the husband himself?

Mirza Sultan Muhammad did not act like Ahmad Baig. He did not mock Hazrat Ahmad (AS). He did not insult Islam. Instead, he became deeply fearful, wrote respectful letters, and sought forgiveness.

Because they turned to God with tears and repentance, God fulfilled His eternal promise:

وَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوْنَ

“And Allah would not punish them while they were seeking forgiveness.”

[Surah Al-Anfal, 8:34]

God Revealed That Only One Man Would Die

Right from the beginning, God made it clear that both men would not die.

In July 1888, Allah revealed to Hazrat Ahmad (AS):

يَمُوْتُ وَيَبْقٰى مِنْهُ كِلَابٌ مُّتَعَدِّدَةٌ

“One man shall die, and multiple dogs shall remain behind barking.”

[Announcement of July 15, 1888; Tadhkirah, p. 108]

Look at the Arabic word يَمُوْتُ (yamutu). In Arabic, this word means one single man will die. If God meant that both Ahmad Baig and the husband were going to die, the Arabic word would be يَمُوْتَانِ (yamutani—two men will die).

God revealed from day one that only one man was destined to die! Ahmad Baig died, and the husband repented and was saved.

The Simple Example of Poisoned Food

In his book Haqiqat-ul-Wahi (pp. 224–225), Hazrat Ahmad (AS) gave a very simple example to explain this:

Imagine two men sit down to eat from a plate of food. They are warned beforehand that the food is poisoned.

The first man laughs, ignores the warning, eats the food, and drops dead.

The second man watches him die in horror. He drops his fork, starts shaking, breaks down in tears, and begs for help.

Would any fair person force the second man to eat the poison and die too?

Of course not!

Ahmad Baig was the first man. He laughed and died within six months. When he died, the husband saw what happened, dropped his arrogance, and turned to God in fear. God does not destroy someone who repents!

Look at Prophet Jonah (Yunus AS)

Anti-Ahmadis want you to believe that if a punishment does not strike, the prophet was false.

If that logic is true, what will they say about Prophet Jonah (Yunus AS)?

Prophet Yunus (AS) gave an unconditional warning to his entire city:

“Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”

[Book of Jonah, 3:4]

Did Nineveh get destroyed on day 40?

No! Not a single person died.

Why? Because the entire city put on sackcloth, wept, and repented before God. The Holy Quran explicitly confirms this:

فَلَوْلَا كَانَتْ قَرْيَةٌ آمَنَتْ فَنَفَعَهَا إِيْمَانُهَا إِلَّا قَوْمَ يُوْنُسَ لَمَّا آمَنُوْا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمْ عَذَابَ الْخِزْيِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا

“Why was there no other people, save the people of Jonah, who should have believed so that their belief would have profited them? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in the present life.”

[Surah Yunus, 10:99]

Now ask any anti-Ahmadi: – Did Prophet Yunus (AS) become a false prophet because Nineveh was spared? – Of course not! Every Muslim respects him as a true prophet of God.

Why the double standard against the Promised Messiah (AS)?

When Ahmad Baig died, the family repented, and God showed mercy to the husband. That is the exact same way Allah dealt with the people of Prophet Yunus (AS).

Muhammadi Begum’s Husband Refused 100,000 Rupees to Lie

If Muhammadi Begum’s husband, Mirza Sultan Muhammad, believed Hazrat Ahmad (AS) was a fraud, he had the perfect chance to expose him.

After Hazrat Ahmad (AS) passed away in 1908, Christian missionaries and Arya Samajists approached Mirza Sultan Muhammad. They wanted to use him to destroy the Ahmadiyya Movement.

They offered him a massive bribe of 100,000 rupees—which was a huge fortune at that time, equivalent to millions of dollars today—just to write a single statement claiming that Hazrat Ahmad (AS) was a liar.

What did the husband do?

He flatly refused the money and threw them out!

In 1913, Mirza Sultan Muhammad wrote a signed letter that was published for the whole world to see:

میں نے حضرت مرزا صاحب مرحوم کو ہمیشہ ایک بزرگ اور نیک انسان سمجھا ہے۔ مجھے اُن سے کوئی عداوت نہیں۔ باقی رہا مرزا احمد بیگ کی وفات کا معاملہ، سو وہ بالکل سچ ہے کہ وہ اپنی میعاد کے اندر فوت ہو گئے

“I have always regarded the late Hazrat Mirza Sahib as a noble and righteous man. I never harbored any animosity toward him. As for the death of Mirza Ahmad Baig, it is an absolute truth that he died within his appointed timeframe.”

[Letter of Mirza Sultan Muhammad, published in Chashma-e-Rahmat, 1913, p. 118]

In 1921, he gave an in-person interview repeating the exact same thing:

“The late Mirza Sahib was my elder and uncle. I never opposed him, nor did I ever say a single disrespectful word about him… As for the prophecy, its first part regarding the death of Mirza Ahmad Baig was fulfilled to the letter.”

[Interview with Mirza Sultan Muhammad, 1921; Tarikh-e-Ahmadiyyat, Vol. 2, pp. 222–223]

Even on his deathbed in 1948, he maintained this exact testimony [Al-Fazl, June 9, 1948].

Think about this logically: – If the prophecy of Muhammadi Begum had failed, her husband would have been the first person to brag about it. – Why would a man reject a fortune of 100,000 rupees? – Why would he publicly confirm that his father-in-law’s death fulfilled the prophecy of Muhammadi Begum?

Because he experienced the awe of God’s sign firsthand!

Muhammadi Begum’s Entire Family Embraced Islam Ahmadiyyat

What was the final purpose of the prophecy of Muhammadi Begum?

Was it to kill people for sport? No! The Quran tells us that prophets are sent to save souls.

Remember the revelation from August 1885:

“so that they may turn back and be among those who repent.”

And that is exactly what happened!

The very family that stomped on the Quran and worshipped idols completely reformed and entered Islam Ahmadiyyat:

  1. Her eldest son joined Ahmadiyyat: Mirza Muhammad Ishaq Baig, the eldest son of Muhammadi Begum and Mirza Sultan Muhammad (the grandson of Ahmad Baig), accepted Ahmadiyyat in 1933. He published a public declaration in Daily Al Fazl:

“According to this prophecy, my grandfather Mirza Ahmad Baig was destroyed, and the rest of the family turned toward reformation out of fear… I swear by God, he is the very Promised Messiah foretold by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.”

    [Daily Al Fazl, February 26, 1933, p. 9]

  2. Her other son joined Ahmadiyyat: Mirza Khurshid Baig, another son of Muhammadi Begum and Mirza Sultan Muhammad, also accepted Ahmadiyyat.
  3. Her grandsons became devoted Ahmadis: Her grandsons, including Mirza Majeed Baig, Mirza Aziz Baig, and Mirza Hameed Baig, all became active Ahmadi Muslims.
  4. Her mother joined Ahmadiyyat: Umar-un-Nisa, the mother of Muhammadi Begum (and wife of Ahmad Baig), accepted Ahmadiyyat, signed the Wasiyyat, and is buried in Bahishti Maqbarah (the heavenly graveyard).
  5. Her sisters and nephews joined Ahmadiyyat: Inayat Begum and Mahmuda Begum (sisters of Muhammadi Begum), as well as her brother-in-law Mirza Arshad Baig, all accepted Ahmadiyyat.

Ask yourself a simple question:

If a man made a fake prophecy about Muhammadi Begum, would her own mother, her sons, her sisters, and her cousins all accept that man as a prophet of God?

Of course not! They believed because they saw God’s sign with their own eyes.

Common Questions Answered

1. “Didn’t Hazrat Ahmad (AS) write that Muhammadi Begum would eventually marry him?”

Yes, in the original warning, it was stated that if the family continued in rebellion, Ahmad Baig would die, the husband would die within two and a half years, and Muhammadi Begum would eventually enter his marriage as a widow.

However, as Hazrat Ahmad (AS) explained, that second part only applied if the husband died!

When Ahmad Baig died in under 48 hours, the family repented in fear. Because the husband feared God and repented, God spared his life under His eternal law of mercy.

Since the husband stayed alive, how could his wife marry someone else? In Islam, a married woman cannot marry another man while her husband is alive!

In 1906, God settled the matter permanently with a final revelation:

تَكْفِيْكَ هٰذِهِ الْمَرْأَةُ

“This woman who is currently in your marriage is sufficient for you.”

[Tadhkirah, p. 596]

The marriage part was officially canceled because the family fulfilled the condition and repented.

2. “Hazrat Ahmad (AS) said his truthfulness depended on the Muhammadi Begum prophecy.”

Anti-Ahmadis love to quote lines where Hazrat Ahmad (AS) said that this prophecy would prove his truthfulness.

And it did!

The core sign was the death of Mirza Ahmad Baig within three years of Muhammadi Begum’s wedding. Ahmad Baig was the ringleader who demanded the sign, laughed at Islam, and stomped on the Quran. He died in less than six months!

Even his fiercest opponent, Maulvi Muhammad Hussain Batalwi, admitted the death happened right on time. Even the husband admitted it. Even Muhammadi Begum’s own family admitted it.

That is undeniable proof of truthfulness.

3. “Why do anti-Ahmadis make cheap attacks about Muhammadi Begum?”

Because they are copying the exact same cheap attacks that disbelievers and Christian critics made against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ!

When God commanded Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to marry Hazrat Zainab bint Jahsh (RA) in Surah Al-Ahzab (33:38) to break a pagan custom about adopted sons, pagan Arabs and hypocrites made cheap jokes and accused him of womanizing. Christian critics still use those same dirty attacks against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ today.

Anti-Ahmadis are copying the exact same disbelievers’ playbook.

They ignore the relatives stomping on the Holy Quran. They ignore them demanding a sign from God. They ignore the father dropping dead in under six months. And they reduce the serious divine prophecy of Muhammadi Begum down to cheap gossip.

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) was in his fifties, sick, and spent his nights crying in prayer for Islam. He had zero personal interest in this:

“I had no personal desire or need for this marriage. It was purely an order from God Almighty to establish a sign for those who were denying Islam.”

[A’ina-e-Kamalat-e-Islam, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 5, p. 572]

Frequently Asked Questions

What was the prophecy of Muhammadi Begum?

It was a divine warning given to Mirza Ahmad Baig of Hoshiarpur regarding his daughter, Muhammadi Begum. He and his relatives had left Islam, mocked Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and demanded a heavenly sign. God revealed that if he married his daughter Muhammadi Begum elsewhere in defiance of God, he would die within three years of that wedding day.

When did Mirza Ahmad Baig die after marrying Muhammadi Begum away?

He died on September 30, 1892, just 5 months and 23 days after marrying Muhammadi Begum away. He died within 48 hours of developing a sudden typhoid fever, fulfilling the prophecy right on time.

Why didn’t Muhammadi Begum’s husband, Mirza Sultan Muhammad, die?

In Islam, warnings of punishment are conditional upon repentance. When Ahmad Baig died, the family was gripped by intense fear of God, offered prayers, fasted, and repented. Muhammadi Begum’s husband humbled himself and showed respect. Therefore, God spared him, exactly as God spared the people of Prophet Jonah (Yunus AS) when they repented.

What did Muhammadi Begum’s husband say about the prophecy?

Mirza Sultan Muhammad publicly testified that Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) was a righteous man and that Ahmad Baig’s death was an undeniable fulfillment of the prophecy of Muhammadi Begum. He even turned down a bribe of 100,000 rupees offered by opponents to speak against Hazrat Ahmad (AS).

Did Muhammadi Begum’s family accept Islam Ahmadiyyat?

Yes. Muhammadi Begum’s eldest son, Mirza Muhammad Ishaq Baig, accepted Ahmadiyyat in 1933. Her other son, Mirza Khurshid Baig, and her grandsons all joined Islam Ahmadiyyat. Even her mother, Umar-un-Nisa (Ahmad Baig’s widow), accepted Ahmadiyyat and is buried in Bahishti Maqbarah.
