Abdul Hakim Patialvi changed his death prophecy against Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) 3 times!

Introduction

Anti-Ahmadis allege that Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) made a prophecy that failed regarding Dr. Abdul Hakim Patialvi (a former Ahmadi who apostatized in 1906).

They quote the following revelation and announcement from November 5, 1907:

مَیں تیری عمر کو بھی بڑھا دوں گا

“I will lengthen your days also.”

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) wrote under this revelation:

“This means that those of my enemies who say that only fourteen months of my age are left after July 1907 or prophesy my death within a certain time will all be confounded and God will lengthen my days so as to demonstrate that He is God and everything is under His control…”

Anti-Ahmadis argue that because Abdul Hakim claimed in July 1907 that Ahmad (AS) would die within 14 months (by September 1908), and Ahmad (AS) passed away in May 1908 (10 months later), the prophecy failed.

This is completely false.

When we examine the actual historical record, Dr. Abdul Hakim changed and altered his death prophecies 3 separate times:
1. First, he claimed Ahmad (AS) would die within 3 years (by July 1909).
2. Then, he shortened it to 14 months (by September 1908).
3. Finally, he fixed an exact date of August 4, 1908 (21 Sawan 1965).

This final date completely failed when Hazrat Ahmad (AS) passed away on May 26, 1908, fulfilling his own prior 1905 prophecy in Al-Wasiyyat.

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) prophesies his death (December 1905)

Before Abdul Hakim ever made a single death prophecy, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) had already published to the entire world that God informed him his death was very close.

In December 1905, Hazrat Ahmad (AS) published his famous book, Al-Wasiyyat (The Will):

مجھے خدا نے خبر دی کہ تیری موت کا وقت قریب آ گیا ہے۔.. خواب میں مَیں نے دیکھا کہ ایک مٹی کا نیا برتن ہے جس میں صرف دو تین گھونٹ پانی باقی رہ گیا ہے، جس کی تعبیر یہ ہے کہ عمر کے صرف دو تین سال باقی ہیں۔

“God Almighty has informed me, through recurrent revelations, that the time of my demise is near… In a dream, I saw that someone gave me some water in a new earthen vessel. Only two or three mouthfuls of water remained in it… The interpretation is that only two or three years of life are left.“

1. Hazrat Ahmad (AS) published in December 1905 that he only had 2 to 3 years of life left (meaning his demise would take place around 1908).
2. Abdul Hakim was aware of Al-Wasiyyat. In July 1906, he issued a prophecy claiming Ahmad (AS) would die within 3 years (by July 1909).

1906 – Abdul Hakim runs away 1st time (The 3-Year Prophecy)

On July 12, 1906, Abdul Hakim wrote a letter to Hazrat Maulana Noor-ud-Deen (RA), claiming:

مرزا مفسد، کذاب اور عیار ہے۔ وہ سچے کے سامنے ہلاک ہو جائے گا اور اس کی مدت تین سال بتائی گئی ہے۔

“Mirza is perverse, a liar, and deceitful. He will perish in the presence of the truthful. The period has been revealed as three years [by July 11, 1909].“

Hazrat Ahmad (AS)’s Response

When Abdul Hakim made this claim, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) published the divine revelation he received:

خدا تعالیٰ نے مجھ سے وعدہ کیا ہے کہ وہ میری عمر کو بڑھائے گا تا اِس جھوٹے کے افتراء کو ظاہر کرے۔ اِس نے پیشگوئی کی ہے کہ مَیں اُس کی زندگی میں تین سال کے اندر مر جاؤں گا۔ مگر خدا فرماتا ہے: امددتُ عمرک یعنی مَیں تیری عمر بڑھا دوں گا تا وہ رسوا ہو۔

“God Almighty has promised me that He will extend my life so that He may expose the fabrication of this liar. He has prophesied that I will die within three years in his lifetime. But God states: ‘Imdadtuka ‘Umraka’ — that is, ‘I shall extend your life so that he may be disgraced.’“

What Did Abdul Hakim Do?

Instead of standing by his 3-year timeframe, Abdul Hakim abandoned it and changed his deadline.

July 1907 – Abdul Hakim runs away 2nd time (The 14-Month Prophecy)

On July 1, 1907, Abdul Hakim issued a new circular, cutting down his 3-year deadline to 14 months:

اس کی سرکشی اور نافرمانی کی وجہ سے خدا نے تین سال کی میعاد کو کم کر دیا ہے… اور آج یکم جولائی ۱۹۰۷ء سے چودہ ماہ کے اندر مرزا ہلاک ہو کر جہنم میں ڈالا جائے گا۔

“In response to his impertinence and disobedience, God has reduced the three-year limit… He revealed to me on July 1, 1907, that Mirza would die and be cast into hell within fourteen months from today [by September 1, 1908].“

Hazrat Ahmad (AS)’s Response

In response to this second announcement, Hazrat Ahmad (AS) published on November 5, 1907:

مَیں تیری عمر کو بھی بڑھا دوں گا

“I will lengthen your days also.”

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) also published the revelation regarding the destruction of Abdul Hakim:

عبدالحکیم کے حق میں یہ الہام ہوا کہ فرشتوں کی ننگی تلوار تیرے آگے ہے مگر تُو نے وقت کو نہ پہچانا۔

“Regarding Abdul Hakim, it was revealed: ‘The drawn sword of angels is in front of you, but you did not recognize the time.’“

What Did Abdul Hakim Do?

Abdul Hakim did not stand by his 14-month timeframe either. He abandoned it and replaced it with a specific calendar date.

May 15, 1908 – Abdul Hakim runs away 3rd time (The Pinpoint Date: August 4, 1908)

On February 16, 1908, Abdul Hakim published a new statement (I‘lanul-Haqq, p. 26). He then sent it to the non-Ahmadi press on May 8, 1908.

On May 15, 1908, The Daily Paisa Akhbar (Lahore) and Akhbar Ahl-e-Hadith (Amritsar) published his final, exact prophecy:

مرزا غلام احمد قادیانی ۲۱؍ ساون ۱۹۶۵ء بمطابق ۴؍ اگست ۱۹۰۸ء کو مہلک بیماری سے ہلاک ہو جائے گا۔

“Mirza would fall prey to a fatal illness and would die on Sawan 21, 1965 [Bikrami] [August 4, 1908].”

Hazrat Ahmad (AS)’s Response

In Chashma-e-Ma’rifat (written in May 1908), Hazrat Ahmad (AS) wrote:

ڈاکٹر عبدالحکیم پٹیالوی جو میرے مریدوں میں سے تھا اور اب سخت دشمن ہو گیا ہے… اُس نے پیشگوئی کی ہے کہ مَیں ۲۱؍ ساون ۱۹۶۵ء مطابق ۴؍ اگست ۱۹۰۸ء تک مر جاؤں گا… خدا نے مجھے خبر دی ہے کہ تُو ہر ایک شر سے محفوظ رہے گا اور وہ خود ہلاکت کے گڑھے میں گرے گا۔

“Dr. Abdul Hakim Patialvi, who was once among my disciples and has now become a fierce enemy… has prophesied that I shall die by 21 Sawan 1965 corresponding to 4 August 1908. In response to his prophecy, Allah the Almighty has conveyed to me that he himself would be cast into torment and Allah will annihilate him and I shall remain secure from his mischief.“

In Al-Badr (May 24, 1908), just two days before his demise, Hazrat Ahmad (AS) published:

“Allah the Almighty will manifest who is the truthful.”

In the final days of May 1908, Hazrat Ahmad (AS) received recurrent revelations that his time to return to Allah had arrived:
* May 9, 1908: “It is time to march; again, it is time to march.” [Al-Badr, May 26, 1908]
* May 15, 1908: “Be not afraid, O believers.” [Al-Badr, May 26, 1908]
* May 20, 1908: “It is time to march; again, it is time to march and death is near.” [Al-Badr, June 2, 1908]

The Fulfillment

On May 26, 1908, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (AS) passed away peacefully in Lahore and was buried on May 27, 1908 (fulfilling the revelation “an event on the 27th”).

Hazrat Ahmad (AS) passed away 70 days before August 4, 1908.

Look at the result:
1. Hazrat Ahmad (AS) fulfilled his own 1905 Al-Wasiyyat prophecy to the exact month (passing away 2.5 years after seeing the vision of 2–3 mouthfuls of water).
2. Abdul Hakim’s date prophecy failed completely, because Hazrat Ahmad (AS) was not alive on August 4, 1908.

Opponents Themselves Admit Abdul Hakim’s Defeat

Even the non-Ahmadi leaders and newspapers in 1908 admitted that Abdul Hakim had failed:

1. The Daily Paisa Akhbar (May 27–28, 1908)

“If Dr. Abdul Hakim Khan had not fixed a particular date (August 4, 1908) for the demise of Mirza Sahib, the objections raised against his prophecy today would never have arisen. But by specifying an exact day and date, he trapped himself, for Mirza Sahib passed away months prior to the stipulated date, rendering the prediction invalid.“

2. Maulvi Sanaullah Amritsari in Weekly Ahl-e-Hadith (June 12, 1908)

Maulvi Sanaullah Amritsari, the leader of the Ahl-e-Hadith, wrote:

“افسوس! ہم نہایت رنج اور درد بھرے دل کے ساتھ یہ سطور لکھتے ہیں… مگر ہم سچی بات کہے بغیر نہیں رہ سکتے۔ اگر ڈاکٹر صاحب [عبدالحکیم] اپنی پہلی بات پر قائم رہتے یعنی چودہ ماہ کے اندر اندر مرزا صاحب کی موت کی پیشگوئی پر، اور تاریخ معین نہ کرتے… تو آج وہ اعتراضات کبھی نہ اٹھتے جو پیسہ اخبار ۲۷ مئی نے اٹھائے ہیں… لیکن افسوس کہ انہوں نے ۲۱ ساون یعنی ۴ اگست کا دن مقرر کر کے اپنے آپ کو پھنسا لیا۔ کاش وہ تاریخ معین نہ کرتے!”

“Alas! We write these lines with the greatest regrets and a painful heart. But what else can we do when we must admit the truth?… Had the doctor STOPPED at what he had stated before, that is, his prediction of Mirza’s death within fourteen months and not fixed a specific date as he has done then those objections could have never been raised as are being raised today by the Paisa Akhbar of the 27th… But alas, his revelation that Mirza will die on the 21st of Saavan, that is the 4th of August, has been published in the Ahle Hadees issue of 15th May, 1908. We wish that he would have left his earlier revelations unaltered, without giving a specific date. Then there could have been no excuse.”

Refuting Critic & Ex-Ahmadi Objections

Objection: “Why didn’t God keep Mirza Sahib alive past September 1908 to prove the 14 months?”

Answer:
1. A Prophet’s life is governed by God’s decree, not by the shifting guesses of an apostate.
2. In December 1905 (Al-Wasiyyat), God informed Hazrat Ahmad (AS) that only 2 to 3 years of his life remained. December 1905 + 2.5 years was May 1908.
3. In May 1908, God sent recurrent revelations that his death had arrived (“It is time to march; again, it is time to march and death is near”).
4. If Hazrat Ahmad (AS) had lived past September 1908 just to satisfy a 14-month prediction that Abdul Hakim had already cancelled and replaced with August 4th, then Hazrat Ahmad (AS)’s own prior divine revelations in Al-Wasiyyat would have been contradicted!

God fulfilled the true Prophet’s revelations (Al-Wasiyyat) in May 1908, while Abdul Hakim’s pinpoint date of August 4, 1908 failed completely.

Summary

The timeline proves that Dr. Abdul Hakim ran away and changed his own words 3 times:

• 1st Time (July 1906): He prophesied death within 3 years. When Ahmad (AS) received Imdadtuka ‘Umraka (“I shall extend your life”), Abdul Hakim ran away and cancelled the 3 years.
• 2nd Time (July 1907): He reduced it to 14 months. When Ahmad (AS) received I will lengthen your days also, Abdul Hakim ran away and cancelled the 14 months.
• 3rd Time (May 1908): He fixed an exact date of August 4, 1908 (21 Sawan). Ahmad (AS) died on May 26, 1908 (70 days prior), fulfilling Al-Wasiyyat. Abdul Hakim’s date failed completely, as admitted by Paisa Akhbar and Sanaullah Amritsari.
